Portion Control

image The more we eat, the heavier we get.

Dieting is just hard to do but if we stick to discipline, then we can maintain a weight that we would be happy with.

Of all the dieting techniques, I would say portion control is the most effective. If you have a control on what goes on your body, then you would never work hard to burn off the calories that you filled up on. You would never have to do another set of crunches, to walk an extra mile, or use the stairs instead of the elevator.

Less food is less exercise. It’s one plus one equals two and there is no complicated algorithm involved. If you really grasp this concept, then, you would never be drawn to buying exercise gadgets on television shops convincing yourself that you can be as good-looking and as thin as the models in those infomercials. At the back of your logical mind, anyway, you know that the power of advertising, in full force, is just working its way on you.

If you consciously watch how you eat, then you can not only keep off the pounds but become lighter, healthier, and happier.

I say how you eat and not what you eat because normal people would have no restrictions on what they eat. Normal people eat what they feel like eating; normal people don’t second thought whether the food in front of them are worth eating at all. A child, with no concept of dieting, would eat if she likes the taste or smell of the food, not if it is good or bad on her. A child would stop eating if she has had enough and would not take another bite just because the food tastes so good. Normal adults should do the same thing.

Rationing your food is not easy especially when you are used to eating until it hurts. But if you will reset your brain on how you eat, then it would be all you need to get to your dream weight. We have to accept that we live in a world where delicious, sumptuous, and mouthwatering food prevail and it’s not easy to turn our back on them. So it lies in the power of the mind; that so-called discipline that once you get wired on, you will never ever depart from. Then, everything comes in a snap. Like you will never look at a chocolate chip cookie the same way again.

Remember that in everything that we do, moderation is the rule. Enjoy what you eat but not overindulge. Everything you eat in excess never leaves your body and shows in the form of fat.

Okay, having said all these, it’s the holiday season, and it’s the season where we have to set our weight watching aside. For how can we enjoy the turkey, the stuffing, and the pies if we would apply the principle of portion control? No, this is not the time to diet. So for the holidays, just enjoy eating and never mind the weight.
