Season for Allergies
It’s the time of year for the plants to reproduce and disrupt the immune system of humans. It’s pollen time and the season for allergies.
For almost a month now, I have been having allergies. I have itchy eyes, runny nose, sore throat, sneeze attacks (series of five sneezes at two second intervals) and I am generally irritable. It is understandably a season for allergies.
The air is thick with pollen. The plants are in the process of reproduction and they do so by transferring pollen grains through the air. Pollination is a scientific subject that involves botany, horticulture, and ecology so I would not go over that topic. My main concern is the effect of pollen in me. Clearly, my immune system is not taking the pollen very well, thus I have allergies.
I never had been susceptible to any allergens before. Well, I may have a slight allergy with dust but not so bad as to make me miserable like this. The pollens in Florida are killers. Since I moved to Florida several years ago, I have been a victim. And is no fun to be down with allergy.
I heard on the news that one way to prevent allergies is to refrain from going outside. But that is impractical. How can we not go outside? We all need to go somewhere every day. Even if we don’t have to, we cannot just stay inside for the rest of the day.
The other resort, which is rather easy, is to take antihistamine, the medicine that would cure the reactions. Although this is not certainly a big issue to anyone, it is to me. I have never been a pill taker. I think I have a pill-scare at some point in my life. Somehow, I have a deep-seated notion that drugs accumulate inside the body and it grows into an ugly mass. Creepy isn’t it?
The last option for me is just to take it all. Let myself suffer and make my body put up with all the allergic reactions. Let nature take its course and let my body heal. The pollens are aggravating but they are not here to stay.
