“I hate my job!”
Do you hate your job? Do you feel like you had it all? Don’t worry. You are not alone.
Most of the working population in America shares the same sentiment. In fact hating the job instead of loving it is the norm. Those who love their jobs are the freaks. Duh. What’s to love with a nine-to-five job?
People keep their jobs to pay the bills. It is next to impossible to get paid for what we enjoy doing. The workplace is not a place for fun and recreation. It is not place for crafts and hobbies. Mostly, work is a place of business where there are bosses and co-employees watching us. It is a place where we have to do a task with one thing in mind —“like it or lose it.”
Why people hate their jobs? Here are five main reasons, not necessarily in order:
1. First is the fact that you have to wake up early in the morning. In this sleep disordered generation, getting up early to go to work is a problem. When you have to cut on sleep to go to work that spoils the rest of your day.
2. Second of it all is the monotony of doing the same thing day in and day out.
3. Third reason is the inadequate salary. When will the wages increase as prices of commodity do? Probably not in this lifetime. Currently, the gas price is a record high and unpredictably increasing. Even groceries cost like gold.
4. Fourth reason is too much work. The pay does not compensate the work. Either our job is too demanding or there is an overload of tasks. If after a long day at work, your job calls you at home while you are relaxing, that is not fun.
5. What would be the fifth reason? Mean bosses. Yes working under terror is no fun at all.
By naming the reason why you hate your job, you can now identify solutions on how to make your job bearable. Since most of us cannot afford to lose our jobs, we definitely have to make them work.
Work it out with your boss. Talk to your boss. You can request to adjust your time, ask for a raise, or level out whatever differences you have with him. If you think you are a good employee and fairly giving back to the company, you have a right to negotiate as long as your demands are realistic. An employee with a high morale works better and the employer knows that.
Take things easy. Your job is only a part of your life; it is not your life. Much more, it is not you. Don’t let your job dictate what your day would be like. Don’t let the frustrations at work come home with you. Know what is important and learn to let go.
Look for ways not to get bored. Boredom is really a big concern that must be addressed. If you can devise different ways to do your job or revise the way you do things, then somehow that would take the monotony away. Strive to make your job something to look forward to each waking day.
If all else fail, you can always look for another job. It may be hard but as long as you don’t quit yet before finding another one, then you are safe. It is always worth it to take your time when looking for a job. Look for something that will be worth the time you spend doing it. Even if you could not love your job, at least you would not end up hating it.
