Self-confidence is like a lipstick. You apply it on a need basis. You carry it in your purse so when a situation calls for it, it is a hand’s reach.

Let’s face it, not every one of us is born with self-confidence. Self-confidence comes with the personality. Either you got it or not. But don’t worry, if you don’t have it, you can learn it.

Self-confidence is your unfair advantage. In speech class, even if you come unprepared, having the self-confidence to stand up and deliver an impromptu speech is better than the one who prepared well but too shy to speak.

It is said that if you are not confident, act like you are – people would not see the difference. So, here are nine confidence fixes you will find accessible anytime you need it. Do any of these as you see fit.

1.       Smile. A smile is always applicable, up-to-date, never expires.

2.       Don’t speak. If you don’t need to, then don’t. Your voice can give out signs of anxiety.

3.       Listen. When you listen, you shift your focus from yourself.

4.       Read if there’s anything to read in the room.

5.       Compliment. Just don’t overdo it.

6.       Hold your chin up. You may be nervous but you have it under control.

7.       Breathe. This would relax your nerves.

8.       Put your hands in your pocket. This communicates an attitude of self-assuredness.

9.       Think of someone you consider as self-confident. Imagine what she would do if she is in your place then act it out.
