Five Reasons Why You Should Hire A Travel Agent

If you are still hiring a travel professional to book your travels, then you may be ahead than those booking theirs on the internet.

If you are still hiring a travel professional to book your travels, then you may be ahead than those booking theirs on the internet. Here are the reasons why booking with a travel agent is smarter than booking online:

1. Personalized Service.  Okay, everything can now be ordered online, even travel.  This is given, as in part of life, because we live in a computer age. Though buying online can be convenient (cut the hassle of picking up the phone and talking to someone), dealing with a human being has its own benefits.  You get a personal attention. You talk to someone who shares the same human characteristics that you do. The power of interaction is the limit of the machine.  A human touch can never ever be duplicated by any computer, however sophisticated it is made.  A travel agent can recommend options, tell her own experiences, and give insights to your wonderful ideas. Can a computer do that?

2. Insider Tip. Know the latest special deals and offers. Just like insider trading, a travel agent knows the hot deals to pick. Learn from the pro. That means more for your money.

3. Bulk Buying. Travel agencies buy in bulk – like wholesale. If you buy by yourself, you’re buying retail. Like Disney World: you go to their site and you get the regular price on the gate, whether you buy it way in advance. Your only choice is to get more days to get a discount. Same principle.

4. Someone working hard for you. There’s a lot of competition among travel agents because there are about hundreds of thousands of them.  A travel agent wants your business. She would work hard for you, or else lose the business.  Make this work for your advantage.

5. Lifelong Relationship. Having a travel agent is like having a doctor or financial adviser. You don’t pay them a fee just to retain a continuing relationship with you but your relationship is somewhat permanent. Isn’t it nice to have your own travel agent like saying, “my travel agent” even if you seldom travel? Because you are more likely to travel again and again, that’s another fact of life. Always remember, life is a journey. Better have someone you can rely on.

As a Travel Consultant I really appreciated this article. However, the reality is more and more people are using us to do their footwork and research for vacations, honeymoons etc. then booking online for a few $$$ less. I think more of us will have to start charging a fee if we are to remain in business. After all no one works for free and we shouldn't have to either. I have people asking me how much can they expect back? I wonder if they ask their doctor, attorney or anyone else they consult with what kind of rebate they get. I spend a lot of time and money on travelling and education so that I remain informed and have first hand knowledge to pass onto my clients. If your boss asks you to take a pay cut or work a few hours for free, would you? Don't take advantage of free services. Asking for a price is one thing, having a travel agent spend hours researching is another. We should all get together and charge $50.00 for information and if the client books we deduct the $50.00 if not at least we didn't waste our time.

Happy Travels and Smooth Sailing
